The deadline for the Significant Dream Mail Art project has just recently passed and all the entries aside from a few local stragglers have come in. Approximately seventy seven artists from around the globe have sent in a total of about 100 dreams! Along with postcard sized art I also received 2 'dream' related zines and an incredible LTR sized collage to include in the show. One of the interesting observations I have made after seeing all of the art work people have sent is the honesty in dreams. It is one of the beautiful things about dreaming, our ego isn't involved in the same way. Another inspiring aspect about dreams is that anything is possible and that is a good reminder to carry over into our waking lives, the surrealist know this well. Then there is the collective unconscious dreams, many I received were about tsunamis and/or related to current events. There is a lot we can learn from our dreams, they are gifts that can hold great insight and inspire great ideas.

Now I am working out how and where I will display all these dreams. Currently I am planning to sew a clear vinyl curtain with post card sized pockets to hold the cards, making both sides visible for the viewer. This could be hung from the ceiling in the middle of the room so people can walk around both sides or in a gallery window at street level, text side visible from the inside where people can get close enough to read the text. Some pieces will be framed and wall mounted with the text reproduced and next to the piece. I am hoping to have the show up this Summer in July, on Denman Island at the Arts Centre but the space is not yet confirmed. Also, I would like to take the show to Courtenay B.C. but have not explored venues there yet. Please let me know if you have any ideas about a space for this show in the Comox Valley and/or beyond.
The mail art will not be for sale. Donations will be accepted to cover expenses like postage for the catalogues and gallery space.
All but a couple pieces have been posted on the 'Significant Dream Project' page on this blog, please take a look. A simple catalogue will be mailed to all of you that included your return address with your piece. Thanks so much to all the contributors!!!
